GLUCKSTADT, MS The building of a new city takes time and a lot of hard work. There are many needs that go into the process - a city clerk’s office, police department, building & permits department and public works. The city of Gluckstadt has worked at record speed to accomplish all of this all in less than three years.
In doing research to find businesses to come to Gluckstadt, Christi Greenlee, started asking locals what they wanted to see come to the city. “The number one request was a park,” said Greenlee. “This was one of the first times in the 30 plus years in commercial real estate that I felt a passion to be a part. I had my mission and started meeting with Lee Hutchinson and Mr. John Harreld.”
The Hutchinson and Harreld families have been deeply rooted in Gluckstadt since it’s inception with their lineage being traced back to one of the original families - the Schmidt family.
“As the businesses in our community continue to thrive, we have noticed a parallel growth in our population.” said Lee Hutchinson. “With this growth, it has become evident that the residents of Gluckstadt are in need of a park. It is both a necessity and a desire for our community members to have a space where they can relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of nature.”
“To fulfill this need, we are delighted to announce that the Hutchinson and Harreld families would like to donate a piece of property for the establishment of a park.” said Hutchinson. “We believe that this park will not only enhance the quality of life for our residents but also attract visitors who will contribute to the vitality of our town.”
The property donated is 20 acres on the west side of Calhoun Station Parkway.
“I thinks it’s for a great cause and opportunity for the City of Gluckstadt,” said John C. Harreld. “As a land owner and developer, I am pleased to help and do,what I can for the city. The leadership in the city has done well.”
“I want to thank the Harreld and Hutchinson families for their generous donation to the City of Gluckstadt.” said Gluckstadt Mayor Walter Morrison. “These families have been here for generations and this donation illustrates their continued dedication to the City. I hope that our citizens will enjoy this park for many years to come.”
“Having a city park will be a huge addition for the city.” said Jayce Powell, Alderman. “The citizens have asked for a green space, place to walk, a park to call their own. We can’t thank Lee Hutchinson, John Harreld, Annette Harreld, Judy Hutchinson enough for their donation of land for a city park and for Christie Greenlee’s help in coordinating everything.”
“We eagerly anticipate the development of plans for this park and are filled with excitement for the future of Gluckstadt.” said Hutchinson. “We envision a place where families can create cherished memories, children can play and explore, and individuals can find solace in the tranquility of their surroundings.”
